21st February 2010 Argos

Box

About a month ago, Sue and I had been given a five pound voucher as a promotion when we bought something in the store. It needed to be used before the new catalogue came out. The only thing we could see of interest was the Vintage set reduced yet again to £19.95. With our voucher we would only pay £14.95 so it seemed like the best bet. When sue got there she discovered that they had knocked off another £4.00 – we ended up paying £11.95!

Multi Models

Box

Having discovered that keeping your eyes open pays off we now check the website from time to time and keep our eyes open for promotions. The latest promotion has been two for £15 in the toys section. A quick search for Meccano came up with the 3 model, Multi Model set. Normally priced at £9.95. At £7.50 each a couple followed us home today. We were not aware of this set before we saw this promotion, so we were intrigued.

The model makes up nicely and the yellow parts are a dark yellow not far away from the Binns Road dark yellow of the late 70s. There are instructions for three models but no parts list. It is supplied with a sealed packet that contains a new style spanner, hex key, two compression springs, a hank of string and four rubber drive bands. Bizarrely, as far as I can see, none of the models use or need either springs, string or drive bands. The model has a working lift, operated by a liver, and I think has far more ‘play value’ than a lot of the recent models. I'm off to make up the other one now!

Ralph.
